Istanbul, January 31 – In a significant operation, Istanbul police have dismantled a sophisticated fake gold workshop that was operating discreetly under the guise of a ‘beauty center’ in the city’s Avcılar district. The raid, conducted by the Avcılar District Police Department’s Public Order Bureau, followed a tip-off about unusual activities at the establishment.

Investigation Initiated After Suspicious Activity Report

The investigation began after authorities received information suggesting that a business on Fevzi Çakmak Street in Ambarlı Mahallesi, prominently displaying a ‘beauty center’ sign, had not been operating as such for an extended period. This initial report prompted a detailed review by the police, raising suspicions about the true nature of the business.

Upon confirming that the premises were not functioning as a beauty center, law enforcement officers launched an immediate operation. The raid on the alleged beauty center revealed a clandestine operation dedicated to the production of counterfeit gold items.

Chemicals, Machinery, and Fake Gold Seized

During the search, police discovered a range of items crucial for the production of fake gold. These included various chemical substances, specialized machinery, and equipment used in the manufacturing process. Among the most significant findings were three gold-like fake bracelets, which were found in a drying state, indicating ongoing production.

In addition to the counterfeit gold manufacturing tools, authorities also found four 9-millimeter caliber cartridges on the premises. This discovery further complicated the nature of the illegal operation.

Suspect with Extensive Criminal Record Apprehended

A suspect identified as S.G. was apprehended at the scene. Investigations revealed that S.G. had an extensive criminal history, with 21 prior criminal records. Furthermore, it was determined that the suspect was wanted for four separate crimes across different cities, including Giresun, İzmir, and Istanbul. The suspect is currently undergoing processing at the police department, with further details expected to emerge as the investigation continues.

Rising Gold Prices Fueling Counterfeiting Activities

The discovery of this fake gold workshop comes amidst a recent surge in gold prices, which authorities believe may be incentivizing criminal elements to engage in counterfeiting activities. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert for similar illicit operations, as the demand for gold creates fertile ground for fraudulent schemes.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Istanbul police to combat organized crime and protect consumers from fraudulent products. The quick response and thorough investigation by the Avcılar District Police Department have successfully disrupted a significant counterfeiting operation, preventing potentially large-scale deception.

Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance among citizens when purchasing valuable items such as gold, urging them to verify the authenticity of products and to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
