Ankara, Turkey – A resident of Ankara has reported being targeted by scammers who, impersonating Vodafone officials, attempted to defraud him through a fake ‘unpaid bill’ scheme, urging caution among citizens against similar calls.
Ankara Resident Targeted by Phone Scammers
R.S., an Ankara resident, became the target of phone fraudsters. The suspects, identifying themselves as Vodafone customer service representatives, called R.S. on his mobile phone, claiming he had an outstanding bill of 1,500 Turkish Lira.
The scammers demanded that R.S. approve a confirmation message that would be sent to his mobile phone to settle the alleged debt. They warned that if he did not approve the message, the debt would persist. R.S., realizing the deception, did not approve the message, prompting the suspects to end the call.
Vodafone Confirms No Outstanding Debt
Following the incident, R.S. contacted Vodafone customer services. He was informed by the officials that the number from which the call originated did not belong to the company. A subsequent check confirmed that R.S. had no outstanding bills or debt registered under his name.
Beware of Scammers!
This incident is believed to be one of the increasingly common phone scam methods. Citizens are urged to be vigilant against similar calls.
