Istanbul, March 6 – The global textile industry convened in Istanbul for the 9th Texhibition Istanbul Yarn, Fabric, and Textile Accessories Fair, a crucial event for a sector that concluded the previous year with 11.4 billion dollars in exports. Organized by İTKİB Fuarcılık A.Ş. and hosted by the Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), the fair attracted more than 25,000 visitors from 125 countries.
Minister Bolat Highlights Financial Support for Textile Sector
During the opening ceremony, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat emphasized the robust financial infrastructure being established to support the industry. “We are creating a strong financial infrastructure with Türk Eximbank’s 59 billion dollar support target, Türk Ticaret Bank’s 100 billion TL financing plan, and İGE A.Ş.’s guarantee mechanisms. Our goal is to elevate our textile sector’s position in the world league by increasing its value-added exports,” Bolat stated.
Focus on Value-Added Production and Global Competitiveness
Mustafa Gültepe, President of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, addressed the challenges facing exporters. “The low exchange rate-high interest rate balance, rising costs, and global uncertainties are putting pressure on our exports. However, we cannot compete solely on price. We must increase value-added production by focusing on high technology, R&D, innovation, design, and branding,” Gültepe asserted.
İTHİB President Ahmet Öksüz echoed these sentiments, highlighting the sector’s resilience. “Our companies managed to achieve 11.4 billion dollars in exports to 195 countries in 2025, despite all adverse conditions,” said Öksüz. He also stressed that in global competition, merely producing is no longer sufficient; value-added production, R&D, and alternative markets are paramount.
Texhibition Istanbul: A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration
The Texhibition Istanbul fair served as a vital platform for industry professionals to explore new trends, forge partnerships, and discuss strategies for future growth. Exhibitors showcased a wide range of products, from innovative yarns and fabrics to advanced textile accessories, reflecting the sector’s commitment to technological advancement and sustainable practices.
The presence of such a diverse international audience underscores Istanbul’s growing importance as a hub for the global textile trade. The fair facilitates direct engagement between Turkish manufacturers and international buyers, fostering export opportunities and strengthening Turkey’s position in the global textile market.
Discussions at the fair also touched upon the importance of adapting to evolving consumer demands, particularly in areas of sustainability and ethical production. Many companies presented eco-friendly materials and production methods, aligning with global trends towards more responsible consumption.
Challenges and Opportunities for Turkish Textile Exports
Despite the impressive export figures, the Turkish textile sector faces significant headwinds. The global economic slowdown, coupled with inflationary pressures and supply chain disruptions, continues to pose challenges. However, industry leaders remain optimistic, emphasizing the sector’s adaptability and capacity for innovation.
The focus on high-tech and value-added products is seen as a key strategy to overcome these challenges. By investing in research and development, and by promoting Turkish brands internationally, the sector aims to move beyond traditional manufacturing and establish itself as a leader in innovative textile solutions.
The fair also highlighted the potential for exploring new markets. While Europe remains a primary destination for Turkish textile exports, there is a growing interest in expanding into emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and the Americas, diversifying the export base and reducing reliance on a few key regions.
Government and Industry Collaboration
The strong collaboration between government bodies, such as the Ministry of Trade, and industry associations like İTHİB, is crucial for the continued success of the Turkish textile sector. The financial incentives and support mechanisms outlined by Minister Bolat are expected to provide a much-needed boost to exporters, enabling them to invest in modernization and expansion.
The commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and growth is evident in the ongoing efforts to streamline export processes and provide access to competitive financing options. These measures are designed to help Turkish textile companies navigate the complexities of international trade and capitalize on new opportunities.
As the Texhibition Istanbul fair concludes, the industry looks forward to translating the insights and connections gained into tangible growth. The focus on value-added production, innovation, and strategic market diversification is expected to drive the Turkish textile sector towards even greater achievements in the coming years, solidifying its role as a key player in the global economy.
