Ankara, May 9 – The historic Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion in Ankara has been officially opened as an art center. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who later responded to journalists’ questions on various topics.
Mayor Yavaş on Political Party Transfers: ‘I Don’t Find it Appropriate’
Mayor Yavaş addressed recent speculation regarding Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal’s alleged move to the AK Party. Yavaş stated, “If voters wanted to elect someone from another party, they would have chosen the mayor they desired. I do not find it appropriate for mayors or members of parliament to change parties after being elected.”
He further elaborated on his stance, suggesting a regulatory framework for such transfers. “Voters never cast their vote solely for an individual. There are always party affiliations or other factors involved. Therefore, if someone is going to change parties, they should first hold a referendum to obtain the approval of those who elected them. That would be more fitting,” Yavaş added.
Yavaş Responds to Erbakan’s Presidential Candidacy Support
When asked about the statement from Erbakan, leader of the Yeniden Refah Party, who said, “If Mansur Yavaş is a candidate in the second round of the presidential elections, we could support him,” Mayor Yavaş reiterated his primary focus.
“I will say what I always say: our priority is Ankara. Our mukhtar is here, our mayor is here. Ankara has many problems. We will solve those first, God willing. But if such a thing were to happen, it would, of course, be their decision, but I thank them. I can say I am honored,” Yavaş commented.
The Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion: A New Cultural Hub
The transformation of the Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion into an art center marks a significant step in Ankara’s cultural development. The mansion, rich in history, is expected to host various artistic events, exhibitions, and workshops, providing a new platform for local artists and cultural enthusiasts.
The initiative aligns with the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality’s efforts to revitalize historical sites and integrate them into the city’s contemporary cultural landscape, making art and culture more accessible to residents.
Further details regarding the mansion’s upcoming programs and events are expected to be announced by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Culture and Social Affairs in the coming weeks. The new art center aims to become a vibrant hub for artistic expression and community engagement in the heart of Ankara.
The opening of the Halaçlı Mehmet Ağa Mansion as an art center is anticipated to draw both local residents and tourists, contributing to the cultural tourism of the region and offering a unique blend of historical architecture and modern artistic endeavors.
The project reflects a broader vision for urban development that prioritizes the preservation of historical heritage while fostering a dynamic cultural environment for the city’s inhabitants.
