Mysterious Discovery in Polatlı: Human Skeleton Unearthed During Roadworks

Ankara, April 29 – A human skeleton was discovered buried in the ground during road construction carried out by municipal teams in the Polatlı district of Ankara. The discovery led to the immediate cessation of work. The identity of the skull and other bone fragments will be determined after a detailed examination by the Forensic Medicine Institute.

The bone fragments, including a skull, arm, leg, rib, and hip bones, were found during road construction in the Yenidoğan District. Municipal teams promptly halted their work and notified the gendarmerie.

Gendarmerie Investigation and Forensic Examination

Gendarmerie teams conducted an on-site investigation of the area where the human bones were found. Following the examination, the bone fragments were collected and sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for further analysis. The autopsy results are expected to reveal the identity of the individual.

Hamdi Özatmaca, the headman of Yenidoğan District, stated, “During the new road construction work by municipal teams in our district, bone fragments emerged during the excavation. We immediately informed the authorities, and the teams arrived in the area shortly. From what we saw, it might be the corpse of a young person; however, we do not have definitive information. No war has taken place in our region. We also do not believe the bone fragments belong to a very ancient period. The nearest battlefield is approximately 15 kilometers away from here.”

Uncertainty Surrounds the Remains

The discovery has sparked curiosity and concern among local residents. The age and origin of the skeleton remain a mystery, with authorities awaiting the forensic report to shed light on the circumstances. The bones were found in an area not known for historical conflict, making the discovery even more perplexing.

The incident highlights the unexpected discoveries that can occur during urban development projects. As investigations continue, the community of Polatlı awaits answers regarding the identity of the individual and how their remains came to be buried in the construction site.

The Forensic Medicine Institute will conduct comprehensive tests, including DNA analysis and carbon dating, if necessary, to provide a clearer picture of the remains. This detailed examination is crucial for understanding the historical context and potential cause of death.

Local authorities have assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a thorough investigation. The area will remain secured until the forensic teams complete their work and the site is deemed safe for further construction.
