Istanbul, December 8 – Istanbul police have intensified operations against street gangs and illegal arms trade under the directive of Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız. These efforts led to a recent successful operation in the Ümraniye and Ataşehir districts, resulting in the apprehension of one suspect and the seizure of a significant cache of firearms.

Operation Targets Suspect in Ümraniye and Ataşehir

Teams from the Ümraniye District Police Department’s Public Order Bureau initiated surveillance on a 39-year-old individual identified as Ü.T., who was suspected of engaging in unlicensed weapons and ammunition trade. Investigations revealed that Ü.T. was conducting illegal arms and ammunition transactions from both his residence in Ümraniye and his workplace in Ataşehir.

Following comprehensive intelligence gathering, police teams launched simultaneous raids on the identified addresses in both districts last Sunday. During these operations, Ü.T. was taken into custody.

Seizure of Firearms and Ammunition

Searches conducted at the suspect’s properties yielded a substantial amount of illegal weaponry. Authorities confiscated 11 unlicensed pistols, along with 3 magazines belonging to these firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, one baton was also recovered during the search.

The seized items underscore the ongoing efforts by Istanbul police to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons within the city and enhance public safety. The operation highlights the commitment to dismantling networks involved in the illicit arms trade.

Suspect Arrested for Illegal Arms Trading

The apprehended suspect, Ü.T., was brought before judicial authorities last Monday on charges of ‘illegal arms trade.’ Following legal proceedings, the suspect was formally arrested and remanded into custody.

This arrest marks a significant step in the continuous campaign against organized crime and illegal activities in Istanbul. The Provincial Police Chief’s directive to escalate operations against such criminal enterprises appears to be yielding tangible results, contributing to a safer environment for the city’s residents.

The Istanbul police force remains resolute in its mission to combat illegal arms trade and street gangs, with ongoing operations expected to continue across the city. The success of this particular operation serves as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies in maintaining order and security.
