Istanbul, Turkey – Istanbul Airport has once again secured its position at the top of European air traffic, recording the highest number of flights between December 8 and 14. According to statistics released by EUROCONTROL (European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation), Istanbul Airport handled an average of 1444 flights daily, surpassing major European hubs such as London Heathrow and Paris Charles De Gaulle Airports.

The EUROCONTROL European Aviation Overview Report, published on December 18, highlighted Istanbul Airport’s impressive performance. The data, accessible via the official website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), confirms the airport’s continued growth and operational efficiency.
During the specified period, Turkey ranked 6th among the top 10 European countries with the highest number of daily average flights, totaling 2,756 take-offs and landings. This represents a 2% increase from the previous week, an 8% increase compared to 2024, and a significant 29% surge when measured against 2019 figures.
Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines Among Europe’s Busiest
Turkish Airlines (THY) demonstrated its strong presence in the European aviation sector, ranking 3rd among the top 10 busiest airline operators in Europe. THY operated an average of 1508 flights daily during the same period. Pegasus Airlines also made it to the top 10, with an average of 582 daily flights, underscoring the robust performance of Turkish carriers.
Sabiha Gökçen Airport Also in Top 10
Adding to Turkey’s aviation success, Sabiha Gökçen Airport also featured in the top 10 busiest airports in Europe. It secured the 10th position with an average of 751 daily flights. Istanbul Airport’s flight numbers showed a 6% increase compared to 2024 and a remarkable 32% increase compared to 2019, reflecting its consistent growth trajectory.
