Istanbul Airport Experiences Summer Holiday Rush

Istanbul, June 26 – Istanbul Airport is currently experiencing a surge in passenger numbers as the 2025-2026 academic year has concluded, marking the beginning of the summer holiday season. Families and children eager to spend their holidays in their hometowns or abroad have created a bustling atmosphere at the airport, particularly in the domestic terminal since noon today.

The end of the 2025-2026 academic year has officially kicked off the summer vacation period for students. This has led to increased activity at Istanbul Airport, with the domestic terminal being especially busy. Many families with children are traveling to their hometowns or holiday resorts, contributing to the significant crowds at the airport.

Increased Passenger Traffic and Airport Measures

The influx of travelers wishing to spend their holidays outside of Istanbul has resulted in queues forming at check-in counters and security checkpoints. In response to this high volume, IGA, the operator of Istanbul Airport, has implemented measures to manage the flow of passengers. IGA teams are actively directing travelers at the airport entrance and within the terminal to ensure smoother operations.

Parents and Children Share Holiday Excitement

Reyhan Gülüm, who is traveling to Antalya for a holiday with her children, shared her excitement. “The children received their report cards today, and we are a bit rushed. My cousin is getting married, so we quickly finished the graduation and are now heading to Antalya. We have a week-long holiday there where they will spend time with their grandmother. We will swim in the sea and play in the sand, shaking off the year’s fatigue. As a parent, this academic year went very well. The children are tired, but it’s a sweet tiredness,” she stated.

Emin and Sinan Gülüm, the children, also expressed their joy. “Our report cards were very good. They constantly gave us exams, so we are very tired. Now we are going on holiday. We miss our grandmother and will swim in the sea there.” Similarly, Şeyma and Yusuf Kaan, another pair of siblings, mentioned they are going to Cyprus for their holiday. “We plan to rest during the holiday. We will swim in the sea and play games,” they said.

Looking Ahead: Continued Holiday Travel

The current situation at Istanbul Airport highlights the annual rush that accompanies the end of the school year, as families embark on their summer adventures. The airport authorities are working diligently to accommodate the increased passenger volume and ensure a smooth travel experience for everyone.

As the holiday season progresses, Istanbul Airport is expected to remain a key hub for both domestic and international travelers, facilitating countless journeys for families and individuals seeking relaxation and new experiences.
