Istanbul Investors’ Stock Portfolio Exceeds 4 Trillion Lira
Istanbul, March 21 – The total stock portfolio value of investors residing in Istanbul reached 4 trillion 108 billion lira in February, marking a substantial 66.8% increase compared to the same period last year. This figure solidifies Istanbul’s position as a dominant force in the Turkish investment landscape.
As of the end of February, Istanbul leads in the number of stock investors, with 1,623,665 individuals. Following Istanbul are Ankara with 690,143 investors and Izmir with 448,731 investors. The total stock portfolio value for Ankara-based investors was recorded at 411 billion 550 million lira, while for Izmir, it stood at 167 billion 624 million lira.
Bursa Takes Fourth Spot in Portfolio Size
Following Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, Bursa emerged as the city with the fourth-largest portfolio value. As of the end of February, Bursa residents’ portfolio value reached 106 billion 247 million lira, with 278,480 stock investors. This places Bursa as a significant player after the three major cities.
Other cities with notable portfolio sizes include Antalya with 67 billion 398 million lira, Adana with 52 billion 849 million lira, Kocaeli with 49 billion 473 million lira, Balıkesir with 41 billion 50 million lira, Mersin with 33 billion 445 million lira, and Konya with 31 billion 637 million lira.
In terms of investor numbers, Bursa is followed by Antalya with 231,639 investors, Kocaeli with 192,323 investors, Adana with 189,088 investors, Mersin with 143,423 investors, Konya with 139,966 investors, and Balıkesir with 122,604 investors.
US Investors Lead Among Foreigners
Among foreign-resident investors, US investors held the largest portfolio value as of the end of February, totaling 732 billion 938 million lira. The US is followed by Qatar with 719 billion 752 million lira and the United Kingdom with 452 billion 720 million lira. Spain comes next with 317 billion 830 million lira, and the Netherlands with 145 billion 146 million lira.
The number of US investors was 953, UK investors 272, and Dutch investors 143. The portfolio value of US investors increased by 69.4% compared to the same period last year, Qatari investors by 67.9%, and UK investors by 83.4%. Spanish investors’ portfolio value saw a 22.1% increase, while Dutch investors experienced a 9.5% decrease.
