Istanbul, Turkey – Residents and visitors to Istanbul are preparing for primarily hot and sunny weather during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday. According to Professor Dr. Hüseyin Toros, Head of the Climate Science and Meteorological Engineering Department at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a brief period of rain is expected only on the second day of the holiday.
Detailed Forecast for Eid al-Adha
Professor Toros, speaking on behalf of the ITU Atmospheric Modeling Team, provided a detailed outlook for the holiday weather. He stated, “Hot and sunny weather will prevail in Istanbul throughout the holiday. We only anticipate a brief rain shower on the second day of Eid.”
First Day of Eid: Sunny and Warm
The first day of Eid al-Adha will greet Istanbulites with beautiful weather. The skies are expected to be clear and sunny, with morning temperatures around 16 degrees Celsius, rising to 27 degrees Celsius during the day. Winds will be light, blowing from the northeast at speeds ranging from 3 to 12 kilometers per hour.
The UV index is projected to reach level 9, categorized as “very high.” Professor Toros emphasized the importance of caution for citizens who will be outdoors, especially during midday, for Eid greetings and animal sacrifice rituals. Protecting oneself from direct sunlight is crucial for health.
Second Day of Eid: Brief Showers Expected
On the second day of Eid, Istanbul is expected to experience short-lived scattered showers. Despite the rain, temperatures will remain high. Morning temperatures are forecast to be around 17 degrees Celsius, reaching a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius during the day. Light southerly winds in the morning will pick up speed to 2-4 kilometers per hour from the north in the afternoon.
Third Day of Eid: Return to Sunshine
The third day of Eid will see a return to sunny weather across Istanbul. A slight drop of a few degrees in temperature is possible. Morning temperatures are expected to be around 16 degrees Celsius, climbing to 24 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
Final Day of Eid: Sunny and Clear
The last day of Eid al-Adha will bring sunny and clear skies across Istanbul. Morning temperatures are forecast to be around 17 degrees Celsius, with afternoon temperatures reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius.
Precautions for the Holiday
Given the high UV index, particularly on the first day, residents and visitors are advised to take precautions against sun exposure. This includes seeking shade, wearing protective clothing, and using sunscreen, especially during peak sun hours.
The forecast provides a clear picture for those planning their Eid al-Adha activities in Istanbul, allowing them to prepare for a mostly pleasant and warm holiday period.
