Memur-Sen Protests US and Israel Attacks on Iran in Ankara

Ankara, March 27, 2026 – Members of Memur-Sen, a confederation of public sector trade unions, gathered in front of the US Embassy in Ankara yesterday to protest against alleged US and Israeli attacks on Iran. The protestors wore vests with the slogan “No to War” and carried banners.

Symbolic Black Wreath Denounces “Darkness of Our Age”

Ali Yalçın, President of Memur-Sen, read a press statement on behalf of the group, emphasizing that the demonstration was not to protest a country, but to expose a mindset. “The black wreath we will leave in front of the US Embassy is not a symbolic gesture. That wreath is the exposure of the darkness that has fallen upon this age, a system that grows with the blood of children, and a politics of destruction adorned with rhetoric of democracy and freedom. Because we now clearly see. Wars in this world do not start with reasons; reasons are produced to start them. And today’s attack on Iran is a continuation of such a system,” Yalçın stated.

Yalçın pointed out that the “bloody maelstrom” created by imperialism and Zionism is gradually setting many countries ablaze. He described the line extending from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf, from Cyprus to Yemen, as a “siege order” that is being expanded in a controlled manner.

He further added that the imperial mind of the US and the Zionist line of Israel complement each other, converging at the point of destruction, violence, and the annihilation of human life.

“All Good People of the World Must Unite”

Yalçın highlighted that this system was established under the guise of bringing “democracy and freedom,” while millions of lives have been lost. He described the events as a “destruction of reason” and an “eclipse of conscience.”

“This mentality says, ‘I do it. Because I have the power.’ At this point, the issue is no longer just politics; it is a matter of humanity. In the face of this situation, all good people of the world must unite immediately and form a strong front,” he urged.

Yalçın stressed that a system capable of producing soldiers who torture children would create not only war but also a “mind devoid of humanity.” “Here we are faced with a very harsh reality. This mentality not only sees the death of children as unavoidable but also as a natural part of the system. At this point, the issue is not just politics, but moral decay, even the explosion of humanity itself. Today, we are rebelling against this heedlessness, this immorality, this filth. Because if we remain silent, this system will grow. If we remain silent, this method will become permanent. The attack on Iran must be read in this context. This attack is the continuity of a system. Imperialism sets the field on fire. The Zionist mind turns this fire into an opportunity for expansion,” he said.

“No Power Producing Destruction in the Name of Democracy is Innocent”

Yalçın warned that the sick mentality that views all existence outside itself as a threat normalizes war and trivializes death. “This is not just an attack on Iran. This is for the continuation of a system that does not center humanity. This is not just a war. This is the exposure of a mentality. And we reject this mentality. The black wreath we leave here today is not a mourning, but a record. That record is this: no power producing destruction in the name of democracy is innocent. No mind that systematizes the death of children is legitimate. No order that excludes humanity is permanent,” Yalçın concluded.

Following his speech, Yalçın and other confederation members placed the black wreath, bearing the words “No to War,” at the intersection of Malcolm X Street and Öğretmenler Street, where the US Embassy in Ankara is located.
