Ankara, April 12 – The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has issued a yellow code alert for 13 provinces across Turkey, forecasting significant precipitation and colder temperatures. The latest weather report, released today, indicates that heavy rain and snowfall are expected in the warned regions, with temperatures remaining below seasonal averages nationwide. This alert comes as parts of the country brace for adverse weather conditions.

Yellow Code Alert for 13 Provinces

The yellow code alert, signifying a potential for hazardous weather, has been issued for the following 13 provinces:

  • Ağrı
  • Bingöl
  • Bitlis
  • Diyarbakır
  • Erzurum
  • Hakkari
  • Kars
  • Muş
  • Siirt
  • Van
  • Batman
  • Şırnak
  • Ardahan

Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution due to the anticipated heavy rainfall and snow. The MGM’s report highlights that precipitation will generally be in the form of rain and showers. However, in the eastern Mediterranean and southeastern Anatolia, thunderstorms are expected. The inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea region, the eastern parts of Eastern Anatolia, and parts of Central Anatolia are forecast to experience mixed rain and snow, or solely snow.

Furthermore, the eastern parts of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia (excluding Iğdır and Van) are expected to experience particularly heavy rainfall. Morning and night hours will see ice and frost, along with fog and localized mist, in the inner and eastern regions of the country.

Risk of Avalanches and Snowmelt

A significant risk of avalanches and snowmelt has been identified in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea region and the eastern parts of Eastern Anatolia, particularly in steep areas with high snow cover. Authorities are urging residents and visitors to these regions to be vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Wind Conditions and Regional Forecasts

Winds are expected to blow lightly to moderately from the south and southwest in the southeastern regions, while other areas will experience winds from the north and northwest. This wind pattern will contribute to the overall colder conditions.

Ankara Weather Outlook

For Ankara, the capital city, the forecast indicates partly cloudy to very cloudy skies. Light rain is expected in the morning, with higher elevations experiencing mixed rain and snow. By midday, rain and showers are anticipated. The temperature in Ankara is expected to be around 10°C.

Istanbul and Izmir Forecasts

In Istanbul, the weather will be partly to very cloudy, with a temperature of approximately 14°C. Izmir is also expected to be partly cloudy, with a milder temperature of around 19°C.
