Istanbul, January 18 – A motorcyclist lost his life on Saturday evening in Şişli, Istanbul, following a collision with a light commercial vehicle and subsequent impact with roadside barriers. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 PM on the D-100 Highway in the Şişli area, resulted in the immediate death of the motorcycle driver, identified as S.B.
Tragic Accident Unfolds on D-100 Highway
According to initial reports, S.B., operating a motorcycle with license plate 34 NYK 765, lost control of his vehicle. The motorcycle first struck a light commercial vehicle, plate number 07 BEJ 893, driven by S.K. The force of the collision caused the motorcycle to swerve and crash into the barriers along the side of the road.
Emergency services, including medical and police teams, were dispatched to the scene following notifications from eyewitnesses. Paramedics confirmed that S.B. had died at the site of the accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver’s helmet had come off during the impact, a critical factor in the fatal outcome.
Traffic Disruption and Ongoing Investigation
The accident led to significant traffic disruption on the D-100 Highway in the direction of Topkapı, with two lanes temporarily closed to traffic. This closure caused substantial congestion in the area for several hours.
Police authorities took the driver of the light commercial vehicle, S.K., to the police station for a statement as part of the ongoing investigation. S.B.’s body was subsequently transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for further examination.
The severely damaged motorcycle, rendered unusable in the crash, was removed from the scene by a tow truck. Following the completion of on-site investigations and clearance operations by emergency crews, the road was gradually reopened to traffic. An official inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident has been launched.
