Istanbul, January 18 – In a significant development in the ongoing drug investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, suspect Nazlıcan Taşkın has been formally arrested. Taşkın, who had been detained as part of the probe, had fallen ill during her initial court appearance yesterday and was hospitalized. Following the completion of her medical treatment, she was brought back to the Istanbul Courthouse, where a peace criminal judgeship ordered her arrest.
13 Suspects Previously Arrested, Including Former Football Player Ümit Karan
This latest arrest follows the detention of 23 suspects in connection with the same drug investigation. Among those initially taken into custody was former football player Ümit Karan. All 23 suspects were brought to the courthouse yesterday after completing their procedures at the police department.
Following their statements to the prosecutor, several suspects, including Ümit Karan, Timuçin Ünal, Gökmen Gürdeğir, Orhan Aydın, Emircan Şahin, Emre Yalçın, Gökhan Gümüş, Nuray İstek, Deniz Berk Cengiz, Murat Sönmez, Hakan Tunçbilek, Ahmet Şaşmaz, Melis Sabah, and Nazlıcan Taşkın, were referred to a peace criminal judgeship with a request for their arrest.
Judicial Control Measures for Nine Suspects
Meanwhile, Fatih Gürdeğir, Ali Gürbüz, Emir Sağıroğlu, Ulaş Yağmur, Burak Doğan, Mert Ayaydın, Merve Duran, Bade Nogay, and Çağla Boz were sent to the peace criminal judgeship with a request for judicial control measures.
The judgeship had previously ruled for the arrest of 13 suspects, including Ümit Karan, and imposed judicial control measures on nine other suspects. Nazlıcan Taşkın’s judicial process was delayed at that time due to her hospitalization during court proceedings.
The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover further details surrounding the drug ring. The arrests underscore Istanbul’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes and maintain public safety.
