Ankara, January 17 – An operation coordinated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and conducted by the Auto Theft Bureau of the Public Security Branch Directorate led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of dismantling vehicles imported from abroad and selling their parts in the market. The operation focused on scrap dealers in the Yenimahalle district.

Extensive Inspection in Yenimahalle

Teams from the Auto Theft Bureau conducted simultaneous inspections at six businesses located in the Yenimahalle Scrap Dealers Industrial Site. A total of 65 vehicles were examined during these inspections. Investigations revealed that six of these vehicles had active seizure and arrest warrants, while some others had their mechanical components already dismantled.

The identified vehicles were subsequently impounded and transported to a trustee parking lot for further processing and safekeeping.

Two Suspects Apprehended

As part of the operation, two suspects believed to be connected with the businesses were taken into custody. They face charges of ‘purchasing stolen goods’. The police investigation into the suspects and their activities is ongoing.

The operation was initiated following intelligence that vehicles brought into the country without proper exit records were being systematically dismantled and sold for parts. This practice not only involves illegal trade but also poses significant risks regarding the origin and legality of vehicle components in the market.

Broader Implications of the Operation

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Turkish authorities to combat illegal activities related to vehicle theft and illicit trade. The dismantling of imported vehicles and selling them for parts often involves complex networks that exploit loopholes in customs and registration procedures. Such operations are crucial in disrupting these networks and ensuring compliance with national and international regulations.

The authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals or the full scope of their alleged operations. However, the ongoing investigation is expected to shed more light on the extent of this illegal trade and potentially lead to further arrests.

Local law enforcement agencies emphasize their commitment to maintaining public safety and order by actively pursuing and prosecuting those involved in criminal enterprises that undermine economic stability and legal frameworks.

The incident also serves as a reminder to consumers and businesses to exercise caution when purchasing vehicle parts, ensuring that they are sourced from reputable and legal channels to avoid inadvertently supporting illicit trade.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Security Branch Directorate continue their work to ensure that all individuals involved in such criminal activities are brought to justice, thereby protecting legitimate businesses and the public from the consequences of illegal trade.
