Restoration efforts have commenced at the Treasury Tower within Yedikule Fortress, a site historically used for safeguarding state treasures and spoils during the Ottoman Empire. This marks a significant new phase in the ongoing restoration of Yedikule Fortress, one of Istanbul’s most crucial historical landmarks.
Comprehensive Restoration for the Treasury Tower
The Fatih Municipality is overseeing these extensive restoration efforts, focusing on the strategically important Treasury Tower. The Mayor of Fatih, M. Ergün Turan, emphasized that Yedikule Fortress is not merely an Istanbul landmark but one of the world’s oldest open-air museums.
The Treasury Tower Rises Again
Mayor Turan underscored the historical significance of the Treasury Tower, stating, “We are meticulously continuing our restoration work at Yedikule Fortress, a symbolic structure of Istanbul and one of the oldest open-air museums in our country and the world. We have now initiated the restoration process for the Treasury Tower, where state spoils were kept during the Ottoman era.”
On-Site Inspections and Scientific Approach
Turan highlighted that the restoration process is being conducted according to scientific principles. He confirmed that detailed on-site inspections of the Treasury Tower were carried out with expert members of the Scientific Board.
“We conducted detailed inspections of the tower with our expert Scientific Board members. We are proceeding with the restoration process in consultation with them, ensuring the preservation of the structure’s original identity and historical texture,” Turan added.
Science and Common Sense at the Core
Emphasizing the importance of a scientific approach in preserving historical heritage, Turan summarized the guiding principle of the restoration work: “We will continue to protect Istanbul’s treasures by prioritizing science and common sense. Our greatest responsibility is to pass on historically significant structures like the Treasury Tower as a true and strong legacy to future generations.”
Upon completion, the Treasury Tower is expected to be reintegrated into the comprehensive preservation and visitor experience of Yedikule Fortress.
