Russia’s New Ambassador to Turkey, Sergey Vershinin, Arrives in Ankara

Sergey Vasilyevich Vershinin, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Turkey, arrived in Ankara yesterday, March 25, 2026. He was welcomed by employees of the Russian Embassy in Ankara and officials from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vershinin’s Diplomatic Background

Vershinin, a former Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, was appointed to the Ankara Embassy position by a decree published in February. With many years of experience in diplomacy, Vershinin is particularly known for his work in multilateral diplomacy and Middle Eastern affairs.

Expectations for His Tenure

During Vershinin’s tenure in Ankara, it is expected that political contacts, economic cooperation, and regional issues between Russia and Turkey will remain prominent on the diplomatic agenda.
