Şereflikoçhisar Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Launches Fight Against Cyber Fraud
Ankara, February 12 – The Şereflikoçhisar Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ankara has launched an extensive initiative to combat cyber fraud and the illegal use of bank accounts. The campaign aims to raise public awareness and prevent citizens from becoming victims or unwitting accomplices in such crimes.
Warnings Against ‘Renting Bank Accounts’
Chief Public Prosecutor Tanju Özer issued a statement specifically warning citizens about crimes committed under the guise of ‘renting bank accounts’. Özer highlighted a recent increase in cybercrimes, not only nationwide but also within Şereflikoçhisar. These crimes often involve promises of ‘easy money’, ‘short-term transactions’, or simply ‘allowing the use of an account’, which are used to deceive citizens.
Özer emphasized, “At this point, it must be particularly stressed that individuals who provide their bank accounts, IBANs, bank cards, or mobile banking information to third parties are often considered not as victims, but directly as perpetrators or accomplices in most of these cases. The fact that the money was not personally used or claiming to have been deceived often does not eliminate criminal liability under penal law.”
Law Enforcement Teams on the Ground
Under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, both Police and Gendarmerie teams have commenced awareness and information campaigns throughout the district. These teams are actively informing citizens on the ground and distributing brochures to educate them about the dangers of cyber fraud.
Citizens are advised to immediately report any suspicious requests or incidents to the Application Prosecutor’s Office located on the ground floor of the Şereflikoçhisar Courthouse or to law enforcement units within the judicial boundaries. This proactive approach aims to empower citizens with the knowledge and resources to protect themselves from falling victim to these sophisticated schemes.
The campaign underscores the commitment of the Şereflikoçhisar Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to safeguard the financial security of its citizens and to ensure that those involved in cyber fraud are brought to justice. The collaborative efforts of the prosecutor’s office, police, and gendarmerie are crucial in creating a safer digital environment for the community.
This initiative is a significant step in addressing the growing challenge of cybercrime, reflecting a broader national effort to combat financial fraud and protect individuals from exploitation through digital means. The authorities urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities without delay.
