Ankara, May 3, 2026 – Sincan Training and Research Hospital, a critical healthcare facility serving Sincan and nine surrounding districts, is slated for a major expansion that will see its capacity triple. This significant development is a direct result of an intervention by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who issued a directive to transfer a 40-decare plot of land adjacent to the hospital from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to the Ministry of Health.
President Erdoğan Orders Hospital Expansion
The announcement was made by Mehmet Pehlivan, Head of the Ankara Provincial Headmen’s Association, who personally conveyed the hospital’s overcrowding issues to President Erdoğan during a meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu was also present during the discussion.
“During our meeting with Mr. President, this issue was discussed in detail. God willing, this problem will be resolved. Our President immediately gave the necessary instructions,” Pehlivan stated after the meeting. He emphasized the critical need for expansion, noting the current facility’s inability to adequately serve the thousands of patients who visit daily.
Addressing Overcrowding and Long Queues
Pehlivan highlighted the severe challenges faced by patients and staff at the hospital. “Thousands of patients apply daily, and the hospital serves Sincan and nine surrounding districts. Due to insufficient physical space, polyclinics are inadequate, and long queues form in emergency services. Our hospital is so crowded that you can’t drop a pin. Our citizens were tired of waiting in queues at the emergency room and not finding a place in the polyclinics. We explained the severity of the situation to Mr. President,” Pehlivan elaborated.
The current situation has led to significant patient dissatisfaction, with reports of prolonged waiting times and difficulties in accessing medical appointments. The hospital, despite its vital role, has been struggling with a patient load that far exceeds its current infrastructure.
40-Decare Land Transfer to Facilitate Growth
The solution comes in the form of a 40-decare (approximately 40,000 square meters) land transfer. This plot, currently owned by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, will be handed over to the Ministry of Health, allowing for a substantial expansion of the Sincan Training and Research Hospital.
“The transfer of the 40-decare land belonging to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, located right next to the hospital, has been finalized. This land transfer will triple the hospital’s size,” Pehlivan confirmed. He added that this expansion is not merely an increase in size but a complete rebirth for the hospital, promising an end to long queues and a significant acceleration of services.
The expansion is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 million people residing in a wide area including Etimesgut, Polatlı, Beypazarı, Nallıhan, Ayaş, Kahramankazan, Güdül, and Çamlıdere, in addition to Sincan itself. This broad reach underscores the regional importance of the Sincan Training and Research Hospital.
Enhanced Services and Improved Patient Experience
With the increased capacity, several key improvements are anticipated:
- Expanded Emergency Services: The current emergency department will be enlarged, significantly increasing the speed of intervention for critical cases.
- More Doctors and Examination Rooms: The number of medical professionals and examination rooms will be increased, aiming to reduce appointment waiting lists.
- Improved Facilities: The expansion will include new parking facilities and resting areas, addressing current logistical challenges and enhancing the overall patient experience.
These enhancements are designed to transform the hospital into a modern, efficient healthcare hub capable of meeting the growing demands of its large service area. The aim is to eliminate the ‘chaos’ currently experienced due to overcrowding and inadequate facilities.
Future Outlook for Healthcare in the Region
The expansion of Sincan Training and Research Hospital is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in Ankara and its surrounding regions. This project is expected to set a new standard for patient care and operational efficiency in the area.
The detailed planning and implementation phases are expected to follow swiftly, with the ultimate goal of providing a more accessible, timely, and higher quality healthcare experience for all residents in the region.
