Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has announced that the ‘Theatre Train’, a key component of the ‘State Theatres Wagon Stage Project’ (Devlet Tiyatroları Vagon Sahnesi Projesi), will embark on its journey from Ankara on May 4th. Minister Uraloğlu further elaborated on the train’s extensive itinerary. The performances will be tailored to different age groups, with children’s plays presented in the afternoons and adult performances in the evenings. Uraloğlu noted that the train will consist of a diesel locomotive, a generator car, three sleeping wagons, a dining car, a dedicated theatre wagon, and a cargo wagon to transport equipment and props.
Building on Past Success: A Growing Initiative
This year’s Theatre Train project builds upon the success of its inaugural journey in 2025. Uraloğlu recalled that the previous year’s organization, which commenced with a ceremony at Ankara Station, lasted 11 days. “Last year, our train staged 22 theatre plays in 12 centers and traveled 4,423 kilometers, meeting with art lovers,” he added, highlighting the growing reach and impact of the initiative.
The ‘State Theatres Wagon Stage Project’ reflects a commitment to making cultural events more accessible to citizens in various regions, fostering an appreciation for theatre and the arts across Turkey.
