ELAZIĞ (AA) – Gendarmerie teams have provided traffic education to primary school students in the Keban district of Elazığ. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among young students about road safety and traffic rules.

Comprehensive Traffic Training for Young Learners

The Provincial Gendarmerie Command Traffic Branch Directorate and the District Gendarmerie Command traffic teams set up a mobile traffic park and a stand at Baraj Primary School. This setup allowed for both practical and theoretical training sessions for students attending various schools in the district.

During the training, students were introduced to fundamental traffic rules, pedestrian safety, and the importance of adhering to traffic signs. The practical sessions in the mobile traffic park provided a hands-on experience, allowing children to understand and apply what they learned in a simulated environment.

Key Participants in the Educational Program

The program saw the participation of several important figures, underscoring the significance of the initiative. Among those present were Chief Sergeant Eyüp Dönmez, the Deputy District Gendarmerie Commander, and Ferhat Emre, the District Director of National Education, along with various teachers from the schools.

Chief Sergeant Dönmez emphasized the critical role of early education in fostering responsible road users. “Teaching traffic rules at a young age is crucial for building a safer future on our roads. These children are our future drivers and pedestrians, and their understanding of traffic safety starts here,” he stated.

Ferhat Emre, the District Director of National Education, also highlighted the collaborative effort. “We are grateful to the Gendarmerie teams for their valuable contribution to our students’ education. Such programs complement our curriculum and provide essential life skills,” Emre added.

Building a Foundation for Road Safety

The training sessions covered various aspects of traffic safety, including:

  • Pedestrian Safety: Emphasizing the use of pedestrian crossings, looking both ways before crossing the street, and avoiding distractions while walking.
  • Bicycle Safety: Instructing students on wearing helmets, using hand signals, and riding safely on roads.
  • Passenger Safety: Highlighting the importance of wearing seatbelts in vehicles and proper conduct as passengers.
  • Traffic Signs and Signals: Educating children about the meanings of common traffic signs and the importance of obeying traffic lights.

The interactive nature of the training, combined with the practical exercises in the mobile traffic park, ensured that the students remained engaged and absorbed the information effectively. The Gendarmerie teams used age-appropriate methods to convey complex information, making it accessible and enjoyable for the primary school students.

Community Engagement and Future Initiatives

This initiative is part of a broader effort by local authorities to enhance road safety awareness within the community. The success of the program at Baraj Primary School has prompted discussions about expanding similar educational activities to other schools in the district and potentially across the province.

Local officials believe that by investing in the education of young children, they can significantly reduce traffic-related incidents and foster a culture of safety from an early age. The positive feedback from students, teachers, and parents alike indicates a strong community reception for such educational programs.

The event concluded with a strong message about collective responsibility in ensuring road safety. The Gendarmerie and National Education Directorate reiterated their commitment to continuing these vital educational initiatives for the benefit of the younger generation.
