ANKARA, (DHA) – The Turkish National Team made history by winning one silver and two bronze medals in the ‘Vertical’ category at the ISMF European Ski Mountaineering Championship held in Azerbaijan.
Historic Achievement in Ski Mountaineering
Organized by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), the European Championship saw Turkish national athletes achieve an unprecedented feat. In the ‘U20 Women’s’ category, Gülnur Sağır clinched a silver medal, while Süeda Sultan Evci secured a bronze. Representing Turkey in the ‘U18 Women’s’ category, Rabia Bulut also earned a bronze medal. These results mark the first time in history that Turkish national athletes have won medals at a European Ski Mountaineering Championship.
Federation President Expresses Pride
Ali Şenkaynağı, President of the Turkish Mountaineering Federation, commented on the championship, stating that the national athletes achieved a historic success in the ‘Vertical’ category, one of the most technical disciplines that pushes the limits of endurance.
Şenkaynağı’s statement included the following remarks:
“I wholeheartedly congratulate Gülnur Sağır, Süeda Sultan Evci, and Rabia Bulut, who made us proud by winning three medals at the ISMF European Ski Mountaineering Championship hosted by Azerbaijan, and achieved a first in our ski mountaineering history. This success is the clearest indicator of the significant breakthrough Turkey has made in Ski Mountaineering. I sincerely congratulate all the technical team, especially our coaches Musa Değer and Ali Osma, and our medal-winning athletes.”
