Istanbul, December 23 – An extraordinary incident unfolded yesterday at approximately 2:30 PM in front of a bank branch on Atatürk Boulevard in the İkitelli OSB neighborhood of Başakşehir. Two suspects were apprehended after attempting to rob a person who had just withdrawn a significant amount of money from the bank. Investigations later revealed a surprising twist: the money the suspects tried to steal was, in fact, the same money they had just paid to the victim as a debt repayment.

Initial Reports and Police Response

According to initial reports, two suspects confronted an individual, identified as F.P. (19), who had just exited the bank with a large sum of money. The suspects allegedly brandished a firearm and attempted to forcibly take F.P.’s bag. When F.P. resisted, one of the suspects fired a shot into the air to intimidate the victim. In response, F.P. reportedly drew their own weapon and fired two shots into the air. Following this exchange, the suspects fled the scene.

Police units were immediately dispatched to the location after receiving the report. Officers initiated an investigation to identify the suspects using security camera footage. The police successfully identified and apprehended two suspects, A.Ö. (44) and T.T. (41), who were reportedly involved in the incident and possessed the firearm used.

The Unveiling of a Bizarre Truth

Detailed investigations by the police and subsequent statements taken at the police station brought to light a much more complex and unusual scenario. It was discovered that A.Ö. and T.T. had withdrawn money from the bank branch to repay a debt owed to a company. They then handed over this money to F.P., a representative of the company.

However, shortly after F.P. exited the bank with the repaid money, A.Ö. and T.T. confronted them. The two suspects then physically assaulted F.P. and forcibly reclaimed the very same money they had just delivered. During the struggle, A.Ö. fired a shot into the air with a weapon they were carrying.

Threats and Legal Proceedings

Furthermore, it was determined that A.Ö. and T.T. had threatened F.P. with a gun, instructing them to provide false statements to the authorities. F.P., after completing their statements at the police station, was subsequently released. A.Ö. and T.T., following the completion of their police procedures, were referred to the courthouse for further legal action.

Security Camera Footage Confirms Incident

The entire incident, which unfolded in front of the bank, was captured by security cameras. The footage clearly shows one person firing a gun into the air and the brief moments of panic that ensued during the altercation.

This unusual event highlights the complexities and often unexpected nature of criminal incidents, particularly when personal debts and financial transactions intersect in public spaces. The investigation continues as authorities work to fully understand the motivations and circumstances surrounding this peculiar case of a debt repaid and then immediately stolen back.
