Istanbul, February 26 – A shocking incident unfolded at a private university in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, where a dispute over a homework assignment escalated into a violent stabbing. Serhan M., a 21-year-old third-year student, was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times by his classmate, Ferhat D. (25).
Homework Argument Leads to Stabbing on Campus
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 24, at approximately 5:20 PM, at a private university located in the Örnektepe neighborhood. According to initial reports, Serhan M. and Ferhat D., both third-year students at the Faculty of Pharmacy, had an ongoing disagreement regarding a term homework assignment.
The argument reportedly intensified, leading Ferhat D. to call Serhan M. to the fire escape. It was there that the confrontation turned violent, with Ferhat D. allegedly stabbing Serhan M. three times in the chest.
Victim in Critical Condition, Assailant Apprehended
Following the attack, Serhan M. sustained severe injuries, while Ferhat D. fled the university campus. Students immediately reported the incident, prompting the dispatch of medical and police teams to the university.
Emergency medical personnel provided initial treatment to Serhan M. at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Okmeydanı Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşçıoğlu City Hospital. Reports indicate that Serhan M.’s condition remains serious.
Police Investigation Leads to Arrest
The Beyoğlu Public Order Bureau initiated an investigation into the incident. Authorities reviewed security camera footage from the university and interviewed eyewitnesses. These efforts led to the swift apprehension of Ferhat D. in the Hasköy Piripaşa neighborhood, where he was found with the knife used in the assault.
Suspect Remanded in Custody
Ferhat D. was taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the police station for questioning. After his statement was taken and legal proceedings were initiated, he was referred to the courthouse. The court ordered Ferhat D.’s arrest on charges of ‘Intentional Injury,’ and he has since been sent to prison.
It was also revealed that Ferhat D. had one prior criminal record. The investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the stabbing is ongoing.
