Ankara, January 9 – A 34-year-old woman identified as A.G., reportedly suffering from psychological issues, is alleged to have set her house on fire in the Mürsel Uluç neighborhood of Çankaya district and then watched the ensuing blaze from the street. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, prompted a swift response from fire, health, and police teams. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control quickly, but the ground-floor apartment of the three-story building suffered significant damage.
Neighbors Claim Woman Set Fire and Watched
According to statements from neighbors, A.G. allegedly set her home ablaze and then stood in the street, observing the fire. Police subsequently detained A.G., who claimed she did not know how the fire started. She was later released after giving her statement.
K.N., a resident of the apartment building, recounted the alarming moments: “The downstairs neighbor called us, saying, ‘Our house is burning, we’re all going to burn,’ so we rushed outside in a panic. Everywhere was engulfed in flames. My husband tried to put out the fire with the neighbor. As I was leaving the house, I saw her yelling, ‘I set it on fire,’ and she left with her dog. That’s when we called the fire department.”
Previous Incidents and Resident Concerns
K.N. further alleged that A.G. had exhibited similar erratic behavior in the past. “She would shout and threaten until morning, as if arguing with someone who wasn’t there, breaking windows, hitting walls. She writes strange things and threats on the windows. We, as residents, are uneasy,” K.N. stated.
K.N. also mentioned that A.G. lived alone with her dog in an apartment owned by her mother. Residents had previously collected signatures regarding her behavior but had not seen any resolution.
Investigation into the Cause of the Fire Continues
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and will be clarified following an investigation by fire department teams. The incident has raised concerns among the residents of the building regarding their safety and well-being.
This event highlights the challenges faced by communities when individuals with psychological issues are involved in incidents that threaten public safety. While A.G. was released after questioning, the ongoing investigation aims to establish the precise circumstances that led to the fire and to address the underlying issues that may have contributed to it.
The local authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses. The community remains on edge, hoping for a resolution that ensures their safety and addresses the needs of all involved parties.
