Istanbul Kent University Karate Team to Represent Turkey in European Championship
ISTANBUL, (DHA) – Students from Istanbul Kent University have earned the right to represent Turkey in the European Championship, following their impressive performance at the Turkey Inter-University Karate Championship. The event, organized by the Turkish University Sports Federation, took place in Burdur between January 28 and 31, 2026.
The championship saw the participation of 235 athletes from 53 universities, where Istanbul Kent University’s karate team distinguished themselves with outstanding results.
Significant Achievements at the National Championship
The Istanbul Kent University team achieved remarkable success across various categories:
- The Women’s Kata Team became the Turkey Champion.
- Ekrem Altuner Yılmaz secured the title of Turkey Champion in the Kumite 67 kg category.
- The Women’s Kumite Team finished as Turkey’s second best.
- Eren Akkurt (Kumite 84 kg) and Ayşe Yılmaz (Individual Kata) also achieved second place in Turkey.
- The Men’s Kumite Team, Rabia Yılmaz (Kumite +68 kg), and Damla Ocak (Kumite 55 kg) all secured third place in Turkey.
These results led Istanbul Kent University to win three trophies:
- First place trophy with the Women’s Kata Team.
- Second place trophy with the Women’s Kumite Team.
- Third place trophy with the Men’s Kumite Team.
University officials stated that these achievements by the athletes and the technical team underscore the university’s commitment to sports. They expressed confidence that the athletes will continue to achieve greater success in both national and international arenas.
