Former Turkish National Football Team Coach Çetin Güler Dies
Istanbul, March 24 – Çetin Güler, a respected figure in Turkish football and former coach of the A National Football Team, has passed away. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced his death with deep sorrow today, March 24, 2026, at 08:32 AM.
The TFF issued a written statement on its official website, expressing profound sadness at the loss of Güler, who served as a coach for both the Turkish A National Team and the U21 National Team.
A Distinguished Career in Turkish Football
Çetin Güler began his football career as a player for Fenerbahçe. He later played for Kasımpaşa, Hacettepe, and Gençlerbirliği before transitioning into coaching.
His coaching journey included a stint as the head coach of the U21 National Team. From 1974 to 1975, Güler served as an assistant coach for the A National Team under Coşkun Özarı.
Following his time with the national teams, he also worked as an assistant coach for Galatasaray. Güler then took on head coaching roles at several prominent clubs, including Kocaelispor, Diyarbakırspor, Altınordu, İskenderunspor, Giresunspor, Adana Demirspor, and Mardinspor.
Dedicated Service to the Turkish Football Federation
In 1990, Çetin Güler rejoined the Turkish Football Federation as a coaching educator. He dedicated many years to Turkish football, serving as the Director of Coach Education and the Director of Coach Personnel Affairs.
His contributions to the development of football in Turkey, both on and off the field, were significant and widely recognized.
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral for Çetin Güler will be held tomorrow, March 25, 2026. The funeral prayer will take place after the afternoon (İkindi) prayer at Büyükada Hamidiye Mosque. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Büyükada Tepeköy Cemetery.
The Turkish Football Federation extended its condolences to Çetin Güler’s grieving family, relatives, and the entire Turkish football community, wishing mercy upon the deceased.
