Istanbul Police Crack Down on Illegal Arms Trafficking
Istanbul, March 25 – In a significant operation against illegal arms trafficking in Istanbul, police forces have detained two suspects and confiscated a substantial cache of weapons. The operation, conducted by the Provincial Police Department’s Organized Crime Branch with support from the Intelligence Branch, targeted individuals involved in the illicit trade of firearms.
Details of the Operation
Authorities received intelligence regarding an arms shipment in the Sancaktepe and Kartal districts. Acting on this information, teams conducted an operation on a vehicle suspected of transporting weapons, followed by raids on the residences of the suspects.
During these operations, two individuals were taken into custody. Searches conducted at the scene led to the discovery and seizure of:
- 122 pistols converted from blank-firing weapons
- 2 hunting rifles
- 350 rounds of ammunition
- 12 slides (for firearms)
- 44 frames (for firearms)
- 100 barrels and various other firearm parts
The confiscated items highlight the scale of the illegal arms manufacturing and distribution network that authorities aimed to dismantle.
