Istanbul, April 9 – Istanbul Governor Davut Gül announced that the ‘A Meal from the Heart’ project has been launched, aiming to provide cafeteria card support to a total of 100,000 students. This initiative, coordinated by the Istanbul Governorship and supported by philanthropists through the Istanbul Children’s Foundation, seeks to address the nutritional needs of students.
Project Details: ‘A Meal from the Heart’ Initiative
Governor Gül shared details of the project on his social media account. He stated that the primary condition for benefiting from the project is to be registered with the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation (SYDV) and to meet specified criteria. The project focuses on providing support to vulnerable student groups in its initial phase.
Eligible Student Groups
The student groups identified for support, based on need and priority, include:
- Children of martyrs and veterans
- Orphans
- Children with disabilities
- Children benefiting from Social and Economic Support (SED) services
- Children under foster care
- Roma children
- Children whose fathers are in correctional institutions
- Children from separated families
- Students attending vocational high schools
Governor Gül emphasized the targeted nature of the support, ensuring it reaches those most in need within the educational system.
Financial Support and Usage
Each cafeteria card will be loaded with 2,000 Turkish Liras (TL) monthly. It is crucial to note that this amount is strictly designated for purchasing food items within school cafeterias. This measure ensures that the funds directly contribute to the students’ nutritional well-being.
“Monthly, 2,000 TL will be loaded onto the cafeteria cards, and this amount will only be used to meet food needs in school cafeterias,” stated Governor Gül.
He also extended his gratitude to all philanthropists who have contributed to this meaningful project, expressing hope that their continued support will enable the initiative to reach even more children.
Broader Context of Educational Support
This project underscores Istanbul’s commitment to supporting its student population and ensuring equitable access to essential resources. By providing direct assistance for meals, the initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on families and contribute to a more conducive learning environment for students.
The ‘A Meal from the Heart’ project is part of a broader effort to enhance social welfare and educational opportunities across Istanbul, reflecting ongoing collaboration between government bodies and civil society organizations.
