Istanbul, April 12 – Ercan Ş. (53), the suspect in the shooting incident that resulted in the death of his 19-year-old daughter Ceylinaz Ş. and the severe injury of his 39-year-old ex-wife Türkan B. in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, has been apprehended by police.
Tragic Incident Unfolds in Zeytinburnu
The incident occurred on April 9, around 6:00 PM, in a residential complex in Sümer Mahallesi. According to initial reports, Ercan Ş. had traveled from Ankara to Istanbul three days prior, intending to reconcile with his ex-wife, Türkan B., from whom he had divorced a year ago. A heated argument erupted between Ercan Ş. and Türkan B. at her home for reasons yet unknown. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Ercan Ş. reportedly drew a firearm and opened fire on his ex-wife and their daughter, Ceylinaz Ş., who was present at the time.
Following the attack, Ercan Ş. fled the scene. Türkan B.’s brother, Güney B., who was also in the house, immediately notified emergency services. Upon their arrival, medical teams confirmed that Ceylinaz Ş. had succumbed to her injuries. Türkan B., who was severely wounded in the attack, was transported to a hospital by ambulance. Police initiated an extensive search operation to apprehend Ercan Ş., the suspect in the murder of his daughter and the injury of his ex-wife.
Suspect Traveled from Ankara to Reconcile
In his statement to the police, Türkan B.’s brother, Güney B., confirmed that Ercan Ş. had come to Istanbul from Ankara three days earlier with the intention of reconciling with Türkan B. Güney B. stated that he heard two gunshots and rushed out of his room to find Ercan Ş., his former brother-in-law, fleeing the house. An investigation into the incident was promptly launched.
Suspect Had Prior Criminal Record
During the investigation, police discovered that the fugitive suspect, Ercan Ş., had a criminal record involving five offenses related to ‘providing a place for gambling’. This information was uncovered as part of the efforts to locate and apprehend him.
