Ankara Prepares for Historic NATO Summit, Expects Full Hotels

Ankara is gearing up to host one of the most significant events in its tourism history: the NATO Summit, scheduled for July 7-8, 2026. Preparations for the summit, which will take place at the Beştepe Presidential Complex, are reportedly complete. The event is expected to draw heads of state and government from 32 NATO member countries, as well as leaders from partner nations, creating a substantial tourism influx between July 1 and July 15.

Approximately 8,000 visitors are anticipated to attend the summit. This includes diplomats, military officials, strategists, technical teams accompanying world leaders, and hundreds of international journalists and television crews from around the globe. To manage the expected increase in traffic during this period, civil servants in Ankara will be granted annual leave, and security measures will be elevated to the highest level.

This surge in activity is projected to result in 100% occupancy rates for 5-star hotels and 85% for 3-4 star hotels in Ankara, marking a historic moment for the city’s tourism sector.

Turkey Poised for a Golden Year in Event Tourism with Multiple High-Profile Events

The year 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Turkey, not only for its traditional tourism season but also for its event tourism and economy. Beyond the NATO Summit in Ankara, the country will host the COP31 Climate Change Conference in Antalya from November 9-20, and a series of concerts featuring global music stars in Istanbul throughout the summer. These three major events are expected to elevate Turkish tourism to new heights.

According to Betül Alakent from Sabah newspaper, these events will create a multi-billion lira economic volume across a wide ecosystem, encompassing hotels, transportation, food and beverage services, and organizational services. This influx of high-profile visitors is anticipated to bring billions in foreign exchange into the country. By breaking away from traditional tourism patterns with this extensive event calendar, Turkey is set to experience a ‘golden year’ in event tourism, extending its reach from Antalya to Ankara and Istanbul to the world.

COP31 in Antalya: A Global Stage for Climate Diplomacy

In November, Antalya will host the COP31 Climate Change Conference at the EXPO area, with an estimated 80,000 to 150,000 visitors expected to arrive in Turkey. Delegations from 196 countries, all parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, will be present at the summit. Over 100 heads of state and top government representatives are expected to participate, generating significant diplomatic and economic activity.

The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization is nearing completion of infrastructure work in Antalya for this event. During this period, hotels in Antalya are expected to reach 80% occupancy, positioning the city on the global stage for sustainability and climate diplomacy.

Istanbul to Become a Music Capital with World-Renowned Artists

Istanbul is set to transform into a music capital this summer, with a flurry of concerts featuring international stars throughout June, July, and August. World-renowned rapper Kanye West will kick off his European tour in Istanbul on May 30. The legendary rock band Scorpions will perform on June 24 as part of their ‘Love at First Sting Tour’.

Metal music icon Pantera is scheduled for July 12, and the globally acclaimed heavy metal band Savatage will perform on July 19 as part of their ‘Prelude To Madness’ tour. Additionally, Amr Diab, the internationally famous Arab pop music artist, will make his Turkish debut in Istanbul on August 2. It is estimated that approximately 30,000 foreign tourists have already booked their stays for the Kanye West concert alone, with their accommodation, transportation, and dining expenses expected to generate around 100 million dollars in revenue for the city.
