Istanbul, June 5 – A fire that erupted yesterday morning at a car dealership in Bakırköy, Istanbul, causing an estimated 50 million Turkish Lira in damages, has been officially ruled as arson. Following an extensive investigation, five suspects believed to be involved in the incident have been arrested.

Arson Confirmed After Extensive Investigation

The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 04:30 AM at a car dealership located on Yeşilköy Caddesi in Bakırköy’s Yeşilköy neighborhood. Flames initially engulfed a parked car and rapidly spread to three other vehicles. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but two vehicles sustained severe damage, and two others were partially damaged. The total damage is estimated to be around 50 million TL.

A comprehensive investigation was launched by the Istanbul Police Department’s Organized Crime Branch, coordinated by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities meticulously reviewed security camera footage and conducted on-site inspections.

The investigation revealed that the suspects had acquired flammable materials from a petrol station using a commercial taxi prior to the incident. They then used these materials to intentionally set fire to the car dealership.

Security Footage Reveals Suspects’ Actions

Security camera footage obtained during the investigation shows the suspects purchasing flammable substances from a petrol station and subsequently igniting the vehicles. This crucial evidence played a significant role in identifying and apprehending the individuals involved.

Based on technical and physical surveillance, an operation was conducted to apprehend the suspects believed to have played a role in planning and executing the arson. Five individuals were successfully taken into custody. The legal proceedings against the suspects are currently ongoing.

Details of the Fire and Damages

The fire, which started in one parked car, quickly spread to three additional vehicles, highlighting the rapid nature of the blaze. Fire crews responded promptly to the scene, working to contain and extinguish the flames. Despite their efforts, the financial losses are substantial, with the estimated damage to vehicles alone reaching approximately 50 million TL.

The incident has raised concerns within the local business community, particularly among car dealership owners in the Bakırköy area. The swift action by law enforcement to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrators is expected to reassure local businesses.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Developments

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office continues to oversee the investigation. Authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy and any potential motives behind the arson attack. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses and the suspects are questioned.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of robust security measures for businesses, particularly those dealing with high-value assets such as luxury vehicles. The use of security cameras proved invaluable in this case, leading to the rapid identification of the suspects.

The Istanbul Police Department has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and bringing those responsible for such criminal acts to justice. The community awaits further updates on this developing story.
