Planning and Budget Committee Selects Candidates for Court of Accounts Presidency

Ankara, June 17 – The Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Committee, under the chairmanship of AK Party Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş, convened to determine candidates for the new Presidency of the Court of Accounts. In a vote, Metin Yener and Bahtiyar Sazlık each received 8 votes, securing their nominations. The names of the two candidates have been submitted to the Grand National Assembly.

Selection Process and Candidate Pool

The committee meeting proceeded without the participation of the CHP group. Chairman Muş stated at the opening that two candidates would be selected from a total of 11 applicants and their names would be reported to the Parliament Speaker’s Office. The ballot papers included the incumbent President Metin Yener, Court of Accounts Vice President Ahmet Tezcan, 4th Chamber President İdris Bulut, 6th Chamber President Nejla Eroğlu, 2nd Chamber Member Beyami Özdemir, 7th Chamber Member Abdullah Şimşek, 8th Chamber Member Abdullah Doğru, Member Mehmet Aksoy, Member Ahmet Gümüş, Chief Public Prosecutor İsmail Altıntaş, Presidency of Strategy and Budget Department Head Bahtiyar Sazlık, and Keçiören Municipality Martyr Families and Veterans Unit Officer Mustafa Gümüş.

Results of the Preliminary Selection

A Temporary Commission for Preliminary Selection was formed to conduct the voting. According to the results announced by this commission, the incumbent president Metin Yener and Bahtiyar Sazlık each received 8 votes, leading to their selection as candidates. Following the announcement, Chairman Muş concluded the committee meeting.

Secret Ballot in the General Assembly

The two nominated candidates, Metin Yener and Bahtiyar Sazlık, will now proceed to a secret ballot in the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s General Assembly in the coming days. To be elected, a candidate must secure a simple majority of the votes cast by the attending members of parliament, provided that this majority is not less than one-fourth plus one of the total number of members of the Grand National Assembly. The incumbent president will continue in their role until the election process is completed. The newly elected president will serve a five-year term.
