Seven Suspects Apprehended in Kartal Homicide Investigation
Istanbul, July 1 – Seven individuals have been detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old man in the Kartal district of Istanbul. The Istanbul Police Department’s Homicide Bureau teams conducted an extensive investigation following the incident on June 26 in Atalar Mahallesi, where Yusuf İnan was tragically killed.
The investigation commenced after Yusuf İnan (27) was fatally stabbed. Police teams meticulously reviewed surveillance footage from the vicinity, which revealed that the victim had an altercation with three suspects as he passed by his workplace. This confrontation escalated, leading to İnan being assaulted and subsequently stabbed.
Swift Action Leads to Arrests
Authorities quickly identified two of the suspects, Ö.S. and B.Ç., who were attempting to flee the country illegally via Edirne. In a coordinated operation with the Provincial Gendarmerie Command, police apprehended these individuals before they could cross the border. Further investigation confirmed that Ö.S. was responsible for the stabbing, while B.Ç. participated in assaulting the victim.
Following these initial arrests, Istanbul police launched simultaneous operations to apprehend five additional suspects believed to be connected to the incident and to have assisted the primary perpetrators. All seven suspects were taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the courthouse after completing their procedures at the police department.
Victim’s Tragic Family History
A poignant detail emerged during the investigation: the victim, Yusuf İnan, had lost his father in the devastating earthquakes that struck Adıyaman on February 6, 2023. Following this tragedy, İnan had brought his two siblings and his mother, who was undergoing cancer treatment, from Adıyaman to Istanbul in an effort to rebuild their lives.
The swift and coordinated efforts of the Istanbul Police Department and the Provincial Gendarmerie Command underscore the commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crime. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as the legal process unfolds.
