13-Year-Old Headless Woman Murder in Istanbul Solved
Istanbul, April 27 – A 13-year-old murder case that began with the discovery of a headless woman’s body in Istanbul in 2001 has finally been brought to a resolution. The victim has been identified as Tazegül Dadaşova, an Azerbaijani national, through DNA matching. Her former boyfriend, M.S., has been arrested and subsequently jailed in connection with the crime.
The gruesome discovery was made on April 21, 2001, when a headless female torso was found in Şişli, Istanbul. Four days later, a severed head was discovered on the Bakırköy beach. Due to the technical limitations of the time, a connection between the two findings could not be established, and the case remained unsolved for many years, eventually becoming a cold case.
Cold Case Reopened, Truth Revealed
In 2014, the Istanbul Missing Persons Bureau, led by Eşref Şahin, underwent restructuring and began re-examining unresolved cases. Among these was the file of Tazegül Dadaşova, who had been reported missing on April 21, 2001.
Detailed investigations and DNA analysis confirmed that the severed head found in Bakırköy and the torso discovered in Şişli belonged to the same person. The DNA match definitively identified the victim as Tazegül Dadaşova.
Last Person Seen With the Victim: Ex-Boyfriend
Investigators delved deeper into the case, examining phone records and cell tower data. It was revealed that Dadaşova had communicated with her former boyfriend, M.S., eight times on the day she disappeared. Her phone signal was last detected near her home in Şişli, and her body was found just two streets away from her residence, raising immediate suspicion.
Arrested with a ‘Broken Faucet’ Ruse
The suspect, M.S., who was working as a plumber in Gemlik, Bursa, was apprehended by police using a clever ruse. He was called to a location under the pretext of a ‘broken faucet’ and was taken into custody upon arrival.
Suspect Remains Silent, Remanded in Custody
During questioning at the police station, M.S. exercised his right to remain silent. He was subsequently brought before a court, which ordered his arrest and remand in custody. This breakthrough has finally shed light on the 13-year-old headless woman murder case, thanks to the re-examination of the file and advancements in technology.
