Ankara’s Major Transport Step: Sincan(OSB)-Yenikent-Kazan Soda Railway Project to Benefit 600,000
Ankara, February 1 – The Sincan(OSB)-Yenikent-Kazan Soda Railway Project, a significant infrastructure undertaking, is set to integrate over 600,000 residents of Yenikent into Ankara’s rail transport network. Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced that the Başkentray suburban line will be extended to Yenikent, marking a major step in the city’s public transportation and freight logistics.
Project Overview: 16 Kilometers of New Rail Infrastructure
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted that the project involves the construction of a 16-kilometer railway line. “Our project will open the door to a major transformation in both passenger and freight transport in Ankara,” stated Uraloğlu. The project extends the Başkentray Suburban Line by 12 kilometers from Sincan to Yenikent and includes a 4,017-meter industrial siding line connecting Yenikent to the Kazan Soda facilities.
Three New Stations and Integration with Başkentray
A double-track railway is being laid between Sincan and Yenikent. “Within the scope of the Başkentray Line, there are a total of 24 stations between Kayaş and Sincan. On the 12-kilometer route extending from Sincan to Yenikent, we are establishing three new stations named OSB, Yenikent-1, and Yenikent-2,” Uraloğlu explained. Upon completion, the Başkentray Suburban Line will be integrated with the 1st Organized Industrial Zone and Yenikent via Sincan Station. This integration aims to provide public transport access to the over 600,000 residents of Yenikent, connecting them to the capital’s rail system.
Economic Impact: Freight Transport and Global Markets
Beyond passenger transport, the project has a significant economic dimension. The industrial siding line to the Kazan Soda facilities will enable the transport of 4.4 million tons of cargo annually. “Thanks to the industrial line connecting to Kazan Soda facilities, we will transport 4.4 million tons of cargo annually. By economically and quickly delivering soda ash produced at the Kazan Soda Factory to ports and presenting it to the global market, we will make a serious economic contribution to our country,” the Minister emphasized.
Advanced Progress and Completion Targets
Uraloğlu reported that the project has achieved a 95% overall completion rate. “We have completed 100% of our work on the 11 cut-and-cover tunnels, totaling 2,239 meters in length, constructed within the project. We have reached a 100% completion rate in the construction of our five bridges, with a total length of 475 meters,” he detailed. Currently, 291 personnel and 127 machines are working non-stop, 24/7, on-site. The infrastructure and superstructure works are targeted for completion within this year.
Benefits for Citizens and the National Economy
Minister Uraloğlu expressed pride in the project, stating that its opening will mark the successful completion of another prestige project for Turkey. “We will transform another very big and important project for our country from a dream into reality. With this approach, we will continue to serve both Ankara and our country tirelessly,” he affirmed. The Sincan(OSB)-Yenikent-Kazan Soda Railway Project is expected to offer fast and comfortable public transport to the citizens in the Yenikent region, while also boosting the logistics capacity of the Kazan Soda facilities and contributing to the national economy.
