Ankara, May 16 – Painter Hakan Esmer’s exhibition, titled “From the Shore Inland,” met with art lovers at CerModern today. The artist stated that the exhibition was influenced by his departure from the Black Sea 30 years ago and his increasing longing for the region while observing it from afar.
A Tribute to His Father and Childhood Memories
Esmer described the exhibition as a tribute to his father, whom he lost six years ago. “Because I associate my father very much with the Black Sea. Of course, the Black Sea, its plateaus, the coast, the sea, is a geography where I spent my childhood, and the longing after leaving made me feel that I had to bring them into my paintings,” he said.
Among the themes he explored with references to the Black Sea, Esmer also included the subject of “Heyamola.” He explained, “I have been working on ‘Heyamola’ for many years. In this exhibition, we are now going from the shore inland. To the plateaus, to the peak of the geography where I spent my childhood, you can include Sümela in this. I bring together the plateau life and houses, and the memories associated with my childhood in the Black Sea, with the audience in this exhibition.”
Approximately 100 Works on Display
Hakan Esmer stated that he prepared his works in various sizes using oil paint on canvas and paper, and that the exhibition features approximately 100 pieces.
The exhibition, curated by Erkan Doğanay, will be open to art lovers until July 12.
