Indian Drug Trafficker, Wanted on Red Notice, Apprehended in Istanbul

Istanbul, April 24 – A major Indian drug trafficker, Salim Dola, who was wanted by Interpol on a red notice, has been arrested in Istanbul. The apprehension was the result of a joint operation conducted by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the Istanbul Police Department’s Narcotics Crimes Branch.

Dola was taken into custody during a raid on a safe house in Beylikdüzü, Istanbul. During the operation, authorities seized 126 kilograms and 141 grams of synthetic drugs, 2,522,000 Indian Rupees (equivalent to approximately 27,787 US dollars), and a counterfeit United Arab Emirates (UAE) passport. The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation at the police department and is expected to be transferred to a repatriation center after the completion of legal procedures.

Operation Details and Seizures

The operation was initiated after intelligence reports indicated that Salim Dola, described as one of India’s largest drug lords, was in Istanbul. Following intensive surveillance and investigation, the MIT and Istanbul Police Narcotics Crimes teams successfully identified Dola’s hideout in Beylikdüzü.

The raid on the Beylikdüzü address led to Dola’s immediate arrest. The subsequent search of the premises revealed the substantial stash of synthetic drugs, the large sum of Indian currency, and the fake UAE passport, highlighting the scale of his illicit activities.

Connections to International Drug Operations

Further investigations and interrogations have revealed that Dola was providing instructions to suspects arrested in operations conducted in the Kurla region of Mumbai, India. This connection underscores his significant role in international drug trafficking networks.

Other Developments in Istanbul and Turkey

This high-profile arrest comes amidst other significant law enforcement actions in Turkey. In a separate operation in Istanbul’s Pendik district, thousands of weapon parts, totaling 3,092 pieces, were discovered hidden in an underground water well in a vacant lot. These parts were intended for the manufacturing of unlicensed pistols. Four suspects were apprehended in connection with this discovery, which is noted as the largest single seizure of weapon manufacturing parts in Turkey to date.

In other news, the Deputy Minister of National Education, Nazif Yılmaz, has been dismissed, and Cihad Demirli, the Head of the Board of Education, has been appointed in his place. Additionally, several other high-level appointments and dismissals have been made across various ministries and state institutions, including the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Trade, and the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ).

Meanwhile, in Sarıkamış, Kars, winter conditions have unexpectedly returned in mid-spring, with snowfall exceeding 15 centimeters. This late-season snowfall has affected transportation and surprised residents, who are accustomed to the region’s harsh climate but not typically this late in April.

These events collectively reflect a dynamic period in Turkey, marked by significant law enforcement successes, governmental reshuffles, and unusual weather phenomena.
